ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kenette Louis (b. 1976), born in Nassau, Bahamas, resides in Los Angeles, California. Louis is a Haitian-American abstract painter whose primary medium is acrylic on canvas. He is best known for his distinctive visual exploration of controlled chaos, creating works that reflect a delicate balance between intention and spontaneity.
Louis’s paintings engage deeply with themes of negative space, shape, texture, and movement. His compositions are marked by bold, gestural brushstrokes juxtaposed with softer, more fluid forms, capturing a dynamic tension between structure and freedom. His recent work signifies a renewed exploration of nuanced color relationships, particularly in shades of blue and organic abstraction, reconnecting him with his artistic roots and voice.
Kenette Louis graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University in the United States, where he studied from 1995 to 1999. After spending decades away from painting while building a career in fashion, Louis rediscovered his passion through painting with his children. This playful return to creativity reignited a deep, familiar spark. In 2024, he committed to painting seriously once again. For Louis, painting has become more than a practice—it is a rebirth and a return to his first love, now pursued with full-time dedication.
